The 2009's come with the MK60E ABS system. This system has most of the conventionally external sensors built right into it.... I'm a tech, and bought a 2009 only to be totally pissed when the car almost threw me in front of a tractor trailer due to ESP ABS activation on slippery snowy roads when I THOUGHT my ESP was off (light flashing).
The 2009 mk60E abs module is long coded (binary), while the 2008 mk60 abs module has short word coding. I have no idea how to convert between the two, and even if I did, it might not help because the hardware between 08 and 09 is very different.
I have spoken with VW engineers who say they had no idea the mk60e was coming in 2009, and was actually scheduled to be released in the 2010 models. They also have no idea how to make it so that ESP can be fully disabled with the button.
My real question here, is why did the car come with an "ESP OFF" button when you simply cannot turn it off in any way? Why didn't it come with an "ASR OFF" button? Before I bought the car, I did everything in my power to look up changes between the 2008 and 2009 model year (I had the choice to buy either). The ONLY noted change was that heated seats were standard, so I purchased the 09.
I'll be speaking with the national VW Engineering rep to see what can be done, this issue takes ALL of the fun right out of the car.
In the meantime, I'll be willing to assist anyone who could use wiring diagrams, coding, etc.. etc.. to try and find a solution to the problem. Unfortunately I'm afraid of changing any coding in my ABS module because the car relies so heavily on it.
P.S. Holding down the ESP OFF button for 10+ seconds just makes the ABS module think that the switch is junk and will blow a code for esp switch failure. So that is total bullshit haha...
