在我们进行On-Road测试时，Frontier的操控就像是驾驶着3.0L以上的大型房车，车子不会让人觉得笨重，车辆在行经不平路面时，车头吸震良好，但车尾显得有些马虎，可明显感受出后悬吊对载重相当重视。在此值得一提的是，我们所试驾的两款车皆为特别式样车，Tacoma为TRD版、Frontier为Nismo版，这两款版本都是所谓的越野式样强化版。有趣的是它们不约而同地使用德国避震器名厂Bilstein避震器，若说它与一般版本有何差异，其实主要是这两种版本的避震器偏向Rally的特性，吸收压缩快、舒张慢，高速行驶不平路面时，马上就感觉得出来。<br />
2005 Tacoma的TRD套件，配有BILSTEIN氮气减震筒和提高磅数的前圈状弹簧、后叶片钢板弹簧，同样备有BF 265/70R16中花全天候越野胎，以及霸气的五爪铝圈，以应付激烈的越野操驾所需。向来美系车给人的感觉就是悬吊偏软，不过在Pick-Up车型上却不容易发生，毕竟货卡车型需要顾虑到载重考虑，因此悬吊设定必须包含合理的载重负荷；换言之，当我们在进行空车试驾时，Pick-Up并不会出现房车般的行船表现。

在道路上巡航时，不论是行经人孔盖或起伏路面，Tacoma的TRD悬吊设定不会给人死硬的感觉，Q的形容算是相当接近，因为它的吸震表现就是一次搞定、直接了当，「跰」一声车身完全不会弹跳，吸震的工作在一瞬间完成。在高速过弯时，突如其来地硬扯方向盘，侧倾也十分合理、轻微，即使它的车高远超过一般房车，却也给人信心十足的操控感觉。<br />
Frontier和Tundra的引擎都大有来头，上一代的Frontier 3.3 V6为美规特有车型，它的心脏实际上就是QX4的VG33E引擎，这具引擎当时是专为QX4所研发出来的，为SOHC 12气门设计，拥有良好的低转速高扭力特性 。不过，为了符合北美市场的大排气量要求，因此改采Nissan旗下著名的VQ40 V6 24V引擎，最大马力265hp/5600rpm、最大扭力39.2kgm/4000rpm，并具备NICS可变进气、CVTCS可变气门正时等系统。<br />
在T100历经市场挫败后，美国丰田决定为Tacoma祭一帖猛药，将旗下优异的1GR-FE引擎值入此车，其汽缸头与缸体皆为铝合金制造，4.0L V6 24V VVT-i有245hp/5200rpm的最大马力，扭力则高达39kgm/3800rpm。强力的输出，配合宁静细致的运转，优质动力已让此车流露出浓厚的Lexus味道。
